Conducted by IRA Board Member Patricia A. Edwards, Department of Teacher Education at Michigan State University.  Her topic: Parent and Community Involvement

First General Session: Friday, March 31, 9:00-10:00 AM

Speaker is Sid Cratzburg of Nepean, Ontario, Canade, an elementary teacher and consultant.  Cratzburg's presentations show how to use humor, poetry and drama in the classroom.  Topic: How to incorporate current culture and events into our teaching.

Author Luncheon: Friday, March 31, 12:15 PM -1:30 PM

Kent Thomasma, Wyoming author of the Amazing Indian Children series.  Thomasma is a professional storyteller and a presenter of writing workshops.

Banquet: Friday, March 31, 6:30 PM

Speaker is SDCTE Author of the Year Virginia Driving Hawk Sneve.  She will also be available after the banquet for book signings.

Breakfast With the Author: Saturday, April 1, 7:30-8:45 AM

Second General Session: Saturday, April 1, 9:00-10:00 AM

Sandra McGeough, Educational Consultant for Houghton Mifflin, will conduct a session entitled, "Writing, Writing, Everywhere" to demonstrate how writing and reading are linked.

Student Award Winners' Event: Saturday, April 1, 10:00 AM-12 NOON

Mary Kay Shanley of West Des Moines, IA, will present for parents and children on the topic, How to Raise a Reading, Writing, Creative Kid.

Awards Luncheon: Saturday, April 1, 12:15-2:30 PM

Aaron Shephard, San Pedro, CA, often featured in Cricket Magazine, author of "The Sea King's Daughter," "The Baker's Dozen," and "The Legend of Lightning Larry."  Shephard specializes in retelling folk tales and other traditional literature from around the world.
