Plans are being made of the 1996 Spring Conference. This year's theme will continue the NCTE National Convention theme "Teaching for Lifelong Learning." Dakota Wesleyan University will host this year's event, scheduled for March 22 and 23.
The executive committee is working to bring you a variety of great
sessions. Topics under consideration include the following:
Grant writing
Implementing the new standards in English
Portfolio writing/writing partnerships
Adolescent literature
Regional literature
Dakota Writing Project
Surviving the first few years
Computers in the classrooms and out
NCTE Convention update
Also on the way are a new slate of awards. We will be awarding cash prizes and plaques for our state Young Writers Contest, open to eighth and eleventh grade students. We will also honor the South Dakota English Teacher of the Year. (See this publication for nomination information.) Finally, we will be honoring the SD Author of the Year.
As you can see, we've made some great plans.
Now it's your turn. Mark your calendars for March 22 and 23. Watch for more information
in future newsletters and mailings. As good as our plans may be, they' re nothing without you!
