Jim Swanson is SDCTE English Arts Teacher of the Year


During the spring conference of the South Dakota Council of the Teachers of English, Jim Swanson, an assistant professor at Dakota State University , was named South Dakota Language Arts Teacher of the Year.

 

Swanson has been in education for nearly 40 years.  His tenure included four years at Cresbard High School, two years at Abbot College in Sapele, Nigeria, with the Peace Corps, two years at Northern State University, and 31 years at Dakota State University.


For more than 15 years, Swanson has been the editor of the SDCTE newsletter.

 

Dr. Eric Johnson, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at DSU said, "His students adore him, his colleagues enjoy working with him and even administrators realize that he is one of the greatest assets of the school."

 

Swanson will be semi-retiring this year and will be teaching part-time.
