Words From the Former President

WOW!!  It is hard to believe that this is my last newsletter as president of SDCTE.  I have really enjoyed my tenure as president.  It is so professionally enriching to network with other English teachers around the state.  You are doing WONDERFUL things.  Thank you for your dedication to students.  Even though I will no longer be president, I won't be out of the picture.  I still have a two-year commitment to act as your liaison to the executive board.  My biggest goal has been to increase membership.  We have worked hard at this, but we are far from done.  It is surprising to me that English teachers around the state don't realize that we have an organization.  As much as we've tried, teachers still don't know that we're back in existence.  Please help me spread the word.  When other teachers hear that we're networking again, they are happy to join us.  Our conference has had wonderful sessions, and yet we get so few teachers there.  Since we're joining the reading council for next year's convention, I'd like to challenge each and every one of you to mention this to teachers you know in our great state.  We have a great slate of sessions already underway.  It will be great.  I would like to thank the executive board for all the hard work they have done, and I would like to thank you, the fellow teachers in the trenches, for helping to make my job as president easier.  Enjoy your summer, and we'll see you in the fall.

God bless,
Karen Harrington, Soon not-to-be President of SDCTE J
