Congratulations to Donna Fisher, Mitchell, for being selected South Dakota's Language Arts Teacher of
the Year. Donna is a very energetic person who is willing to try creative techniques and ways of
authentic assessment. Donna has also carried her expertise beyond her classroom being involved in
many state and national activities. She helped to write the South Dakota Language Arts Standards
and was one of the two delegates to the National Teacher Forum sponsored by the Department of
Education in Washington, D.C. Donna was invited by Secretary of Education Richard Riley as the only
K-12 educator on a panel that discussed educational issues. The executive council feels that hers was a
very well deserved award. The council also believes that there are many other qualified teachers in our
state. Please think about nominating someone for next year's award.
