Wow! Have we made progress! From a few wanderers in January to a growing membership list and interested constituency in July, the SDCTE is on the rebound.
Many of the short articles in this newsletter will update you on past and coming events. Some of the happenings are NCTE affiliated; some are local and state functions. In all cases, you have an opportunity to join your SDCTE colleagues on several levels and to offer your commentary and suggestions in all arenas. We sincerely hope you will choose to get involved. Fact is, we're nothing without you!
While my personal mission has focused on re-opening the organization and reaffirming its participation in forums where the teaching of language arts matters, I will always maintain that it is personal connections that make this organization a viable entity. So, no matter where we choose to go in the future, I hope you will feel free to connect with us, to participate and plan, to offer advice and discussion, and to glean the expertise of like-minded colleagues.
I am a native South Dakotan. In those few words is the essence of my mission in life. I revel in the beauty, the variety, and the independent status of this incredible piece of earth. Likewise, I am continually awed and inspired by the spirit, knowledge, power and independence of people here--and that goes double for my colleagues in the English teaching profession. What dynamic people you are! Do you know how incredible your talents are?
As we meet with each other in future sessions, I welcome your advice and your offers of time and expertise. Anything you can generate in the way of productive idea-making, in the way of policy discussion, or in the way of social connection will be greatly appreciated. I look forward to seeing you at the annual meeting in Aberdeen at SDEA. Please join us!
