Can you make connections possible? Do you have an idea for a 2-3 hour meeting of like-minded area teachers? Can you offer a site for that meeting?
We'd like to facilitate your ideas. Please bring your ideas to the annual meeting (August 17 in Aberdeen at SDEA) or write or call Sue to get started. We're limited only by our imagination!
For a sampler, here are some ideas we've kicked around in the past:
An idea exchange session or swap meeting. Everyone brings and idea to share over coffee or sandwiches. We connect!!
Authors' readings. Do you know a recently published author? Would he/she read an excerpt or some selections or discuss the process of his/her work with a group of teachers? There's a lot to learn about the literary process and about writing when we're engaged with a "living" writer.
How to handle the extra-curric assignment. Yep, we know you've done it all. But how did you do it? What advice would you offer to the new kid? To the overworked oldster? To the teacher just overburdened with activities and papers? Can you offer some fancy tricks for getting it all done and retaining your dignity?
Contemporary Literature. Have you just taught a new work with good results? Would you like to just talk good books? Let's try this!
Modernization. If you are in the midst of updating your curriculum, if you are a member of a modernization school, or if you have insights into change in the contemporary curriculum, please consider sharing them with us.
Tech Updates. We all need to keep abreast. Know any experts? Do you pride yourself in you school's keeping pace with technology? Have you found an easy, inexpensive way to connect with global learning?
College Previews. College instructors--what have you got to sell to us? Share your proposal and ideas with us. We'd love to hear what's cooking in your kitchen.
Problem-Solving. So many times we grinch and groan about problems that do have solutions. If you've solved a problem, or if you have a problem and you think there has to be a solution, we could do a session just on this topic.
Again, we just need your ideas, a place to meet and a warm coffee pot. Please consider generating an area meeting. An officer or facilitator will do his/her best to be there.
