Autobiographical Little Books
Submitted by Karen Harrington
Secondary English, Mitchell High School

We have our ninth graders do a little book about themselves.  This has been a great way to get to know my students.  Students purchase a bare book* for their project.

I require 15 pages, front and back. Students must include a page about a person who has influenced them, three pieces of advice from three different generations, historical information about the day they were born, their goals for the future, what they like best about themselves, someone else's earliest memories of them, and their own earliest memories.

Any remaining pages are filled with writing of their choice.  I give them numerous ideas such as best vacation, worst vacation, family, favorite holiday, a happy experience, best subject in school, etc.  They can include pictures, but half of each page must have writing.

If  you have questions or would like me to send you my handouts for this activity, please email me at harringtonk@mitchell.kI2.sd.us.  Happy little booking!!
