Well, after about fourteen years as editor of the English Newsletter, I'm
going to hang it up. This year I officially retire from my post at Dakota
State University and begin a new career, though I have no idea what it will be.
I will, more than likely, be doing some part-time teaching at DSU, but mostly I
hope to read all those books that have collected on my shelves during the forty
years that I have been teaching and going to grad school. I have enjoyed
every minute of it, and during my association with SDCTE, I have been encouraged
by the many inspired English teachers I have met and worked with. Of
course, I shall maintain my membership in SDCTE, and I will continue to
contribute in any way I can.
One
of the problems in doing a good newsletter is to have material to publish.
I know that there are many English teachers in our state who have great ideas to
present. I wish I could have encouraged more of these people to share
their ideas and concerns. A good newsletter will be as good as the
material that goes into it. We need to find these gems. I hope that
my successors find the formula for doing so. There is no dearth of
material. We just need to discover the sources.
So,
with that, I say adieu. Good luck to SDCTE!
