Sharon Olbertson, Beresford High School, and Donna Fisher, Mitchell High School,
have been awarded a South Dakota Humanities Council research grant to develop a
Literary Map of South Dakota. This project, which SDCTE sponsors, proposes
to establish criteria and to select authors and literary works for a literary
map of South Dakota. Because the proposed map should serve both K-12
teachers and their students as well as the general public, historically
significant and contemporary authors of books for children and adults will be
included.
After production of the map and accompanying interpretive flyer (to be, we hope, partially funded by a SDCH media grant), it will be presented and promoted for discussion and distribution at state conferences for teachers and librarians as well as for the general public. A third phase, the development of a web site featuring the map and supportive materials, is also projected.
