Winners of the NCTE Achievement Awards in Writing are Aaron P. Hiatt of Washington High
School and Andrew R. Travers of Lincoln High School. Participants in the contest had to submit
material for two categories: a selected writing of their own choosing from any genre and
a response to an impromptu topic. Judges for the contest were Nancy Moose and
Patricia Ericsson of Dakota State University. State coordinator for the contest is Jim Swanson.
In this issue we are publishing an essay from Aaron Hiatt, "Football at Its Finest."
Next fall we shall follow up with a selection from Andrew Travers.
