1994 NCTE Achievement Awards in Writing

The 1994 NCTE Achievement Awards in Writing went to Katie Murra of Brookings High School and Tellef Johnson of Washington High School of Sioux Falls.  Katie's teacher was David E. Walder and Tellef's teacher was John a. Norberg.  To recognize and encourage participation in this prestigious annual writing contest, we are printing their prize-winning selections.  Each contestant was required to write two selections: one, an impromptu theme written under teacher supervision in no more than 75 minutes, the other a sample of prose or verse that they considered their  best writing.

The South Dakota Council of Teachers of English salutes the achievement of these two excellent writers and their teachers--as well as all of the other fine contributors and their teachers.  We encourage more  teachers to take advantage of this great incentive for good writing.
