The Spring Conference of the SDCTE attracted the largest number of language arts
teachers in recent years. Over 45 members enjoyed the hospitality of Cedar
Shores Resort in Chamberlain on the weekend of March 27-28, 1998.
Sessions included
such topics as writing strategies, the uses (and abuses) of language, reading
strategies, poetry, technology for language arts, portfolios, drama activities
for the classroom, and assessment. Presenters ranged from elementary to
college level teachers. In short, there was something for everyone.
Linda Hasselstrom,
SD Author of the Year of 1997, provided program highlights with her banquet
speech and her informal breakfast session the next morning.
In response to
suggestions from those attending, the SDCTE will be--
1) scheduling next year's conference at Cedar Shores
2) including more sessions for elementary teachers
3) trying to increase our elementary teacher membership
Therefore, we ask
current members to SPREAD THE WORD. Put the corresponding dates on your
calendar for next year. Talk to at least one other teacher on your staff
about coming. Contact an elementary teacher about joining SDCTE.
Contact SDCTE about sessions you would like to see, or be willing to present.
Remember, we are our own best resources!!
