Greetings fellow English teachers,
H
ello and welcome to
November!!! Where did the months of September and October go? My name is Karen Harrington, and I'm
proud to be your president of SDCTE for another year. We have come sooooo far, and yet after this summer I realize
that we have "miles to go before we sleep."
At several conferences this summer, I stood up to give SDCTE a plug
and found out that very FEW 6-12 teachers in our great state realize that we are in operation.
Let's switch this around. My challenge to you is to tell EVERYONE that we are alive
and well. Encourage them to attend our Spring Conference, which will be held again at
Cedar Shores in Chamberlain on March 26 -27, 1999. You can reserve your rooms for
$65 (either double or single) if you state that you are with SDCTE. Kent Meyers, our SD
Author of the Year for 1998, will be our keynote at the banquet Friday evening.
We have lined up some great sessions, so please take time to come and network.
I also would like to encourage you to nominate a teacher for SD teacher
of the Year and an author for SD Author of the Year. You will find the forms in this newsletter.
I have rambled on long enough. Enjoy your year and remember that SDCTE is here to be
of service to you. Let us know how we can help. With you in the trenches,
Karen Harrington
President, SDCTE
