The South Dakota Council of Teachers of English (SDCTE) announced March 28th the award of South Dakota Teacher of the Year 1998 to
Nancy Zuercher and Jean Helmer.
Karen Harrington, SDCTE President made the announcement: "Nancy
and Jean represent the finest of our writing teachers. As co-directors of the Dakota Writing Project,
they have made an enormous impact on teachers of writing at all levels in South Dakota.
They represent higher education and public school education working together in a
partnership."
Nancy Zuercher is Associate Professor of English at the University of
South Dakota. Jean Helmer is Teacher of English at Belle Fourche High School.
