Greetings fellow English teachers,
Hello, this is Karen Harrington; I have the pleasure of being president of
South Dakota Council of Teachers of English for the next two years. I teach grade 9 English,
speech, novels, and dramatics at Mitchell High School. I have taught here for the last 14
years. I've also taught in Nebraska and Colorado, so I know just how much we have
going for us. I'm not sure that you are aware that there are many hardworking,
dedicated people who care about teaching this "wonderful" subject in the state of South Dakota.
I have been inspired by them.
My hope is to get more of
YOU involved. The nature of the beast we teach makes it almost impossible to
have the time to network with the professional colleagues living right in our midst.
Well, it's time for a break. Talk to your principals and let them know we are a growing
organization that needs your support. Our annual spring conference this year will be held at Cedar Shores in Chamberlain.
We are doubly thrilled to have Linda Hasselstrom as our keynote
speaker at the banquet and as a presenter at sessions on both days. To find out more about this fabulous
event, please read on in this newsletter. Everyone should try to convince least two people
who aren't members to join us this year, so we can make this year one of our best.
I'm looking forward to meeting as many of you as I can.
God Bless,
Karen Harrington
