Linda Hasselstrom is SDCTE South Dakota Author of the Year

Linda Hasselstrom, SDCTE Author of the Year for 1997, will keynote this year's convention on March 27 -28 at Cedar Shores Resort in Chamberlain.

Hasselstrom has long used South Dakota experience and her work as a woman rancher and environmentalist as the backdrop for her many poems, articles and books.  Most recently, Hasselstrom co-edited Leaning on the Wind, a compilation of essays, articles, poems, reflections, and memoirs written by women of the plains region.  Her books include Land Circle: Writings Collected from the Land and Windbreak: a Woman Rancher on the Northern Plains and several books of poetry.  Ms. Hasselstrom has also contributed her time and energy to the Prairie Winds Writer's Conference, a South Dakota workshop for young writers and teachers of writing, and is currently helping to edit and publish a teacher resource book from Prairie Winds.

Hasselstrom will also host a session at the SDCTE convention and be available for book signing and questions.  Her program at SDCTE is made possible by a Speakers Bureau grant from the South Dakota Humanities Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.  For more information, contact SDCTE through Karen Harrington at Mitchell High School.
