MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

As I feel the chill in the air and watch autumn leaves swirl in the late afternoon sunlight, I realize that it's time for the fall newsletter.  We at SDCTE headquarters (my study hall at present) have quite a bit of news.

For those of you who are new to our organization, I'd like to welcome you.  For those who return as old friends, welcome back.  We're looking forward to working with all of you in the months to come.

It's never too early to start making plans to attend the Spring Conference.  This year we'll be in Madison.  Jim Swanson and DSU will be our hosts on April 4th and 5th.  The executive council has already secured some great presenters for the conference, but there is still time for any of you to send suggestions.  What sessions would you like to see?  What sessions might you be willing to present?  We'd love to hear from you.

Your help is also requested in the area of leadership.  My term as president ends in August of 1997.  Karen Harrington of Mitchell High School will take over the reins.  Your suggestions will help us choose a new vice president.

It's also time to start thinking about your choice for Teacher of the Year.  Nomination information also appears in this publication.

As the bell brings this period to a close, I will also end this message to you: Have a great year, and please keep in touch.

Until next time,

Kandy Punt
SDCTE President
