Carrie A. Larson, a junior high English and elementary art teacher at Martin, SDCTE's Leadership Development Award Winner, attended the NCTE Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, November 16-19, with the assistance of Prentice Hall-Pearson Education and the National Council of Teachers of English. The program, developed to nurture new leaders, recognized an early career teacher in every state of the Union and its territories who met the following criteria: one to five years of teaching experience, demonstrated capacity for professional leadership, and willingness to serve the affiliate during the 2000-2001 academic year.
Carrie, along with 54 other winners, was honored at the Affiliate Breakfast at the Convention on Sunday, November 19. All Leadership Development Award winners were recognized during the breakfast and were also asked to share their unique perspectives of our profession during roundtable discussions held for each region.
As a stipulation of the award, Carrie and SDCTE have negotiated a
term of service which includes duties such as her presenting at our spring conference in March
2001, writing an article for our newsletter, assisting an Executive Board member,
and/or assisting with a workshop for new teachers.
Carrie, we welcome you to SDCTE. May your enthusiasm be
contagious!!
