Literary Analysis

Gale's Lit Kit: Gale Group, an electronic information publisher, provides a number of free resources.  The literary resources include a literary index, a glossary of literary terms, and tips on writing term papers.

Glossary of Poetic Terms: Part of Robert Shubinski's "Bob's Byway: A Poetic Diversion," this glossary provides simple definitions and explanations for many poetic terms.

The Johns Hopkins Guide to Literary Theory and Criticism: Michael Groden and Michael Kreiswirth's site provide access to many literary resources, but only the A entries are publicly available.  To view other entries, you must either subscribe (for an annual fee) or be affiliated with an institution that subscribes.

The Literary Dictionary: This site aims "to provide biographies and text profiles for all valuable literary authors and works in the English language."  It is edited by Robert Clark (University of East Anglia), Emory Elliott (University of California, Riverside), and Janet Todd (University of Glasgow).

Literary History: This site, designed for both students and teachers, "seeks to collect critical or explanatory web writings about American and English literature."  The editor is Jan Pridmore.

Literary Resources: Skylar Hamilton Burris has organized a number of sources and study guides for students and teachers.

The Virtual Classroom: This site, maintained by the University of Cambridge, attempts "to give a taste of some of the many approaches to literary criticism."  The site features a glossary of literary terms.
